The strategic planning process began with a meeting of the consultant, senior staff and a Board liaison on November 2, 2017. The meeting included a review of strategic planning principles, a discussion of organizational value proposition, a review and brainstorming of the vision and mission statements, a tutorial on preparing an environmental scan, and plans for conducting a community forum. The session concluded with a set of recommended principles for the vision and mission statements, a timeline and assignments for the preparation of the environmental scan, and a process for conducting the community forum.
The goal-setting process began when the community forum was held to gather input from stakeholders (PDF) on January 17, 2018. Staff examined internal conditions and external influences that affect Village operations and presented the Environmental Scan (PDF) to the Village Board on February 12, 2018. The Committee of the Whole met on February 21, 2018, February 22, 2018, and March 29, 2018 to review community, staff feedback and discuss priorities for the Village moving forward.
Based on these conversations, staff and the consultant worked to create a strategic plan based on six (6) priorities; economic development, financial stability, growth, intergovernmental partnerships, recreational amenities, and infrastructure. Adoption of the plan will direct staff to make progress toward the Village Board’s established priorities. The Strategic Plan (PDF) was adopted by the Village Board on August 22, 2018.
