The intent of this section is to provide some further information on the
permit process within the Village of Homer Glen. Ideally this will assist you
and your business in determining if you are required to obtain a permit and how
you obtain a permit from the Village.
Depending on the type of improvements you are considering for your business,
from remodeling work to a new wall sign, permits are required by the Village for
these improvements. Typical work that requires a permit would be:
- New building.
- Remodeling work.
- Roofing/siding/windows.
- Concrete.
- Signs - permanent/temporary.
- Please contact the building department if you are unsure if a permit is
required.
Typically the two departments that review most permits are the building
department and the planning and zoning department. The building department
performs the inspections and enforces the building codes. The planning and
zoning department review types of uses within zoning districts, lot coverage and
property setbacks.
The approximate time-frames for permits vary depending on the complexity of
the request. A new commercial building or a complex building remodel can take up
to a month, depending on the quality of the plans submitted. A sign permit can
take a less than a week to issue, once again depending on the submittal of the
correct plans and the quality of these plans. Most permits can be issued within
a week to 10 days if the correct plans and the quality of the plans are in
order. Contractors working within the Village need to register with the building
department prior to the commencement of any work. If you would like to discuss
the permit process with Village Staff or would like to discuss your plans for a
specific permit, please contact the following:

- Planning and Zoning Department: (708) 301-0632
The Village aims to provide you with the information to help you make an
informed decision to move forward with your business. If we can help you with
that decision please contact us immediately.
