Homer Glen
Tree Planting Ceremony October 29, 2011
The Homer Glen Lands Day Tree Planing Ceremony held on October 29, 2011 was very well attended. Cub Scouts from Troop 62, scout leaders, and parents were enthusiastic about their donation of a native Kentucky Coffee Tree to the Homer Township Healing Garden.
In attendance were Homer Township Supervisor Pam Meyers, Homer Township Healing Garden Chairman, Diane Sramek and her volunteers, Nancy Eleder, Barbara Bozen and Connie Dempsey, who were very appreciative of the large shade tree. Others in attendance were Mayor Daley, Denise Daley, Trustee Ted Kagianas, Trustee Margaret Sabo, and Manager Cameron Davis who volunteered to be the photographer.
Rick Gomez, owner of Instant Shade Tree Transplanting Inc., a Homer Glen business, very generously donated his services and time to locate and transplant the native tree. The cub scouts and adults were very impressed with the large tree installed with a 90 inch Big John Tree Spade hydraulically driven and truck mounted that positioned the tree perfectly in the ground.
The cub scouts also enjoyed planting two small Shagbark Hickory trees donated by Possibility Place Nursery. These seedlings near the Healing Garden sign will grow to be 70 to 90 feet tall. The Environment Committee coordinated this activity and extends its appreciation on behalf of the Village to all who contributed and donated to this meaningful event.
Scout leaders for Cub Scouts Pack 62 are Dan and Donna Donohue, Jerry Staley, Kim Paske, and Cheryl McPherson.
