The Homer Township Road District
Weather Alert: January 11, 2017
The overnight forecast is for less than a 1/4 inch of rain beginning around 4:00 AM and changing over to ice and/or snow before 7:00 AM. Although the precipitation totals are minor, icing is still a concern. If the air temperature and/or the road/sidewalk surface temperature fall below freezing when any moisture is present, ice over conditions can quickly occur. Since this precise moment is impossible to predict, we are scheduling all plow routes to be manned at 4:00 AM tomorrow morning (Thursday, January 12th) to be ready to apply road salt when necessary. Pre-treating roads to address this issue is not an option as any deicing product applied during the rain would only be immediately washed off the roads.
We are asking everyone to be careful if they need to travel early tomorrow. Please remember that there is little visual difference between a “wet” road and an “iced over” road. You should also remember not to walk in icy conditions with your hands in your pockets as that prevents you from breaking your fall if you should slip on the ice.
Please Be Safe
