The Will County Health Department has found the first West Nile virus positive mosquitoes to occur in its traps in our area. A sample taken from a Lockport trap, collected on August 11 was confirmed positive this week.
The Village of Homer Glen has conducted three community wide mosquito sprayings on June 12, July 1 and August 8. A fourth spraying will take place in early September. The Village recommends that residents take personal protection measures to minimize mosquito bites including: using insect repellent, wearing loose fitting clothing and avoiding peak mosquito feeding times during the hours around dawn and dusk. Residents are urged to examine their property and eliminate any items that can hold water, particularly smaller items that may be easily overlooked.
