In May 2019, the Village of Homer Glen launched a project to update its Comprehensive Plan. The Village’s original Comprehensive Plan was adopted in 2005, which was four years after its incorporation as a municipality in 2001. As Homer Glen has grown and changed over time, so has its priorities. These new priorities are reflected in the Village’s recent 2018-21 Strategic Plan, which outlines six strategic priorities, three core values, a strategic vision and mission, and key outcomes for the next few years. Many of these priorities and outcomes align with the need to update the Village’s Comprehensive Plan, particularly to “align the [plan] with balanced growth, economic development, and community values.”
Building off of the 2018-21 Strategic Plan, the Comprehensive Plan Update will define strategies for an expanded tax base, updated land use map, greater housing diversity, open space and recreation opportunities, utilities and infrastructure plan, and sensible development along the Village’s primary corridors and opportunity sites. The Comprehensive Plan will also provide updated Design and Development Guidelines with municipal code and process update recommendations for signage and site landscaping standards, as well as conservation design standards.
To guide the Homer Glen community through this planning process, the Village hired the multidisciplinary consultant team of Savoy Consulting Group, LLC, Egret & Ox Planning, LLC, and Antero Group. Collectively, the consultant team will utilize its experience in comprehensive planning, zoning, housing, economic development, municipal engineering, and community engagement to frame the planning process. The consultant team plans a series of outreach activities to gather community feedback.
The first two community outreach activities will take place later this month. On June 22-23, 2019, the consultant team will be at HomerFest engaging the public with interactive activities to gain insights on Homer Glen. Look for them at the Village’s Community Information tent at HomerFest. Then, on June 26, 2019, the consultant team will be hosting a Public Open House to continue gathering community input and enable the public to learn more about the project. The open house will take place from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Village Hall Community Room. Additional outreach activities will be planned throughout the project.
