Last night, shortly before the Village Board meeting, the Will County Sheriff’s Office notified the Village of a serious incident that occurred in our community. A resident experienced a home invasion after returning home from grocery shopping. Although the Village was first notified at approximately 6:15PM yesterday evening, the Village recently learned that the incident took place earlier that day, at approximately 2:00PM. The Village has contacted the Sheriff’s Office regarding this delay in notification.
Although the investigation into this crime is ongoing, it is the Village’s understanding that the resident was approached by an individual, armed with a firearm, after returning home from grocery shopping. A second individual arrived shortly thereafter and also displayed a weapon. The offenders forced the victim into her home, restrained her, and forcefully obtained her credit card pin numbers.
The offenders fled the scene, and the victim was able to free herself and seek assistance from a neighbor. We are grateful to share that the victim is physically unharmed, although understandably shaken.
The Will County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating, and we will continue to update our web site with all significant developments, as information is reported to us. Please direct any questions regarding the specifics of the investigation to the Will County Sheriff’s Office.
Please remember to stay aware of your surroundings when arriving or leaving your home, as well as when entering and exiting stores or vehicles. If you see suspicious activity, contact law enforcement immediately.
Our thoughts are with the victim, and we thank our Sheriff’s Office for their swift response and ongoing work to keep our community safe.
Stay vigilant, Homer Glen.
