To ring in the Christmas Holiday season, the Village of Homer Glen and the Parks and Recreation Committee are hosting the holiday event “Homer for the Holidays,” which will include the new Winter Lights exhibit at the Active Core in Heritage Park. Homer for the Holidays features a full schedule of holiday-themed activities. Please note this is an outdoor event. Please come dressed appropriately. Any changes to this event due to inclement weather will be posted on the website and on the Village Facebook page.

  • Lighting Ceremony this year the Village of Homer Glen is lighting up the Active Core! Including monumental light sculptures and a 30' pole tree.
  • Photos with Santa 
  • Christmas Train Ride through the Active Core Winter Lights!
  • Holiday Arts & Crafts
  • Letters to Santa Station presented by Hallmark
  • “Dress Your Pet” Holiday Photo Contest Display - see full details below!
  • Christmas Carols sung by students of Homer Junior High School and Oak Prairie Junior High School.
  • Live music from the Merry Maskers Christmas Carolling Group
  • Touch-a-Firetruck provided by Homer Township Fire Protection District
  • Free seasonal refreshments provided by the Village of Home Glen
  • Food trucks with a variety of dinner and treat options for purchase

This event is free and available to all ages! Come help us spread holiday cheer this year at the Village of Homer Glen! If you are interested in volunteering for the event please email ablank@homerglenil.org

Please note that there is a limited amount of time available to visit Santa and ride the train. 

Dress Your Pet Photo Contest

*No Pets are allowed in Village Hall*

Show your holiday spirit by dressing your pet in Holiday garb! Simply take a photo of your pet in costume and email it to ablank@homerglenil.org by Wednesday, November 27. All entries will be displayed in Village Hall for attendees to vote on during the Homer for the Holidays event. Please remember to include your name, phone number and pet’s name in your submission email. All animals are allowed to participate! 

There are three categories:

  • Best Traditional Costume
  • Best Creative Costume
  • Overall Cutest Costume
