Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ Update: Road District Transfer – 18 Miles of Unincorporated Roads
The Village has received some questions about the 18 miles of unincorporated roads and what will happen after the road district is transferred to the Village of Homer Glen. As shared previously, the Village of Homer Glen has offered to maintain these roads for free in perpetuity for the unincorporated residents of Homer Township. This is an offer not a demand. However, the decision to accept this offer rests solely with the Homer Township Board. If the Township Board desires to maintain these 18 miles themselves, they may do so. The Road Commissioner, Mr. DeVivo has created plans for the Township Board that includes staffing, equipment, office space, garage space. He has also assisted with Supervisor Meyers with a draft budget and real estate tax levy that would be required to maintain an 18 miles road district. This information was shared with Supervisor Meyers in August with no response.
The Village fully recognizes that just as the Homer Township has no authority over our 135 miles of roads, we do not have authority over the 18 miles of roads in unincorporated Homer Township. The offer was made in the spirit of public cooperation, and with the goal of no Homer Township property owners paying real estate taxes to the Homer Township Road District again.
